Code of Conduct Policy
1. Purpose
This policy outlines the standards of behaviour expected from all pupils, tutors, staff and parents/carers engaged in our Alternative Provision. It ensures a safe, respectful and professional learning environment for every participant.
2. Principles
All individuals are treated with dignity and respect.
Learning takes place in a calm, structured and supportive environment.
Conduct must not compromise safety, wellbeing or learning.
Staff and tutors act as professional role models at all times.
Communication is clear, respectful and appropriate.
3. Expectations for Pupils
Pupils are expected to:
Attend sessions on time and participate positively.
Show respect for tutors, peers, family members and property.
Follow reasonable instructions designed to support learning and safety.
Use appropriate language and communicate respectfully.
Report concerns related to safety, wellbeing or behaviour.
Care for learning materials and the working environment.
Pupils must not:
Engage in violence, aggression or threatening behaviour.
Use discriminatory, abusive, or degrading language.
Bring weapons, dangerous items or illegal substances to sessions.
Intentionally damage property or disrupt learning.
4. Expectations for Tutors and Staff
Tutors and staff are required to:
Maintain professionalism, punctuality and preparedness for all sessions.
Adhere to safeguarding policies and report concerns immediately.
Use positive behaviour strategies, de-escalation and clear boundaries.
Ensure communication with pupils remains professional and appropriate.
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with policy and legislation.
Record progress, behaviour concerns and incidents accurately and promptly.
Demonstrate fairness, consistency and non-discriminatory practice.
Tutors and staff must not:
Use physical punishment, intimidation or humiliating behaviour.
Engage in discriminatory, abusive or inappropriate conduct.
Communicate with pupils via personal channels or social media.
Share personal information beyond what is necessary for safeguarding or provision.
5. Expectations for Parents and Carers
Parents and carers are expected to:
Support attendance, punctuality and engagement in provision.
Communicate respectfully with tutors and staff.
Provide accurate information about the pupil’s needs, risks and health.
Notify the organisation promptly of absences or emerging concerns.
Ensure the home environment is safe and appropriate for tutoring when sessions occur there.
Avoid using abusive, aggressive or intimidating behaviour towards staff.
6. Online and Remote Learning Conduct
During online sessions:
All participants must dress appropriately and behave as they would in a face-to-face session.
The learning environment must be private, safe and free from inappropriate content.
Sessions must not be recorded without explicit permission.
Only approved platforms and login details may be used.
7. Breaches of the Code of Conduct
Failure to meet the expectations of this policy may result in:
Verbal reminders or corrective guidance
Behaviour plans or increased supervision
Meetings with parents/carers and professionals
Temporary suspension of sessions
Review by the referring Local Authority, school or commissioning body
Withdrawal of provision where safety or engagement cannot be maintained
Serious breaches, including safeguarding concerns or criminal behaviour, will be referred to external agencies such as the Local Authority, police or social care.
8. Review
This policy is reviewed annually or sooner if required due to organisational or legislative changes.
